What is July most famous for? Independence Day! I looked it up and here is the dictionary explanation....Also known as the 4th of July, this holiday is a celebration of the United States' freedom and independence from Great Britain. Americans celebrate with parades, fireworks, and family gatherings.
I guess you can say I celebrated it because my family reunion was held right here in Ohio from July 3rd through July 7th....And, what a celebration it was indeed! I met cousins that I never knew anything at all about. I found out where my family began and heard lots of amazing stories about my ancestors. I had so much fun with the cousins I grew up with and we recanted so many funny tales about ourselves. Some of the highlights were the meet and greet catered breakfast with foods from our ancestors like shrimp n grits (creole style). There was a family banquet catered as family style and we all wore white to celebrate the occasion. Then there was the family picnic at the Edgewater Yacht Club where my cousin is a member and we had use of the covered picnic pavilion next to the inground swimming pool and the dock with all the beautiful boats on display.
The games were especially fun and my favorites were the watermelon game where your hands are tied behind your back and you lean in and eat as much as you can by bobbing your head up and down and chewing as much as possible in a very short time. But the real gut buster that made me laugh so hard my stomach ached was the "banana race." You haven't lived and loved and laughed until you play this game. Look it up and let me know what you think!hahahahahahahahahahahahah!
All in all, July was a good month for me. Plenty of good weather, warm temps, lots going on like summer outdoor concerts, backyard BBQ's, Fireworks, etc. I still had my moments of sadness just thinking about Mike and all the things we used to do together that he is no longer a part of anymore. I still miss him something terrible. It's tough making a new normal for my life going forward. He's not here for me to talk to, or plan our fun days out, or hold hands on our daily walks, or go to the grocery store, doctor appointments, trips to Walmart and Sam's Club, the Mall, neighborhood concerts and events. But I am so very grateful that I can know that he made it to the other side and is living his best life with the Lord every single day. He's got it better than me, that's for sure. And, the best part is that I have something very awesome to look forward to when I come over to his neck of the heavens!!! Till we meet again.....I can't wait!!!!!!!!!
